• ◆Earwigs indoors after watering – Finding earwigs inside shortly after irrigation runs usually means the bed against the foundation is holding water right where the entry points are.
• ◆Sawdust below trim, posts, and beams – Coarse shavings under porch posts, window frames, or beam ends indicate carpenter ants in wood that has been kept damp.
• ◆Rub marks along beams and wall bases – Dark greasy smears along joists, beams, or the base of a wall map the routes rodents are already using, and show where exclusion work should start.

On heavily irrigated Eagle lots that dry break is the highest value change available for ants, earwigs, and termite risk.
• ◆Declutter Garages, Shops, and Woodpiles: Black widows need undisturbed low harborage. Getting stored items up onto shelving, moving woodpiles away from the house and off the ground, and sweeping corners regularly removes most of the habitat they rely on.
• ◆Seal the Outbuildings Before Fall: Check barns, shops, and sheds for gaps at doors, siding seams, vents, and utility penetrations, and seal with steel wool, hardware cloth, and rodent rated sealant before the foothills cool and the deer mice start moving.
• ◆Keep a Mowed Break at the Rangeland Edge: Where a lot meets open range or pasture, a mowed strip along that boundary removes the cover rodents use to approach the structures and makes the crossing exposed.
• ◆Drain Standing Water Weekly: Check troughs, low spots, tarps, wheelbarrows, and ornamental water features weekly through the warm months. On river side properties these are the mosquito sources closest to the patio, and they matter more than anything further out.
• ◆Protect Young Trees From Vole Damage: Keep grass and ground cover trimmed back from trunks and use guards on young landscape trees. Most vole damage is discovered in spring, well after the girdling that caused it happened under winter cover.
