Moles are small rodents that are identified by the damage they cause your lawn or garden. You might notice that there are dirt mounds and tunnel openings in your well-maintained lawn which is indicative of mole activity. They are generally harmless but in the search for food, they will tunnel through surface soil while destroying the root structure of grass and plants. This inevitably causes unsightly dead spots in your lawn or the crops in your garden to die.

EcoGuard Pest Management specializes in mole control and our highly trained technicians can identify where mole mitigation strategies will be most effective. We use a baiting and trapping program to eliminate moles from your property. Mole Information

EcoGuard Pest Management is a leader in Mole control methodology & service.

Moles are solitary animals that identified by their narrow hairless snout, dark fur, and large front hands that are perfect for tunneling. These destructive animals build burrows underground where they nest and from that burrow dig several tunnels in search of grubs and worms to eat. They stay deep underground for the most part unless they are looking for a mate in which they will surface more frequently. Breeding season is generally February through May and males will let out high pitched squeals to attract females.

Moles prefer moist soft soil that is easy to dig through which is why overwatering your yard can be conducive to attracting moles and their food supply. They are usually active early morning and evening and are rarely seen in person. For the most part, moles have poor eyesight which makes sense given the lack of light in their subterranean environment. That said, they have an excellent sense of smell and touch which allows them to smell and feel the vibrations of their prey. This same sense of smell is the reason that preventative measures like using castor oil as a deterrent are so effective.

Signs Of Moles

Surface runways These are the trails of raised soil that moles leave as they come close to the surface of your yard.

Molehills – These mounds are also known as mole piles and are the tunnels that open into a dirt mound.

Plant or lawn damage – Moles will destroy root systems in search of insects to eat so signs of plants or grass dying could indicate mole activity.

Grass the pulls up easy – This generally indicates soil that is loose enough for grub activity which is a big mole attractant.

Mole Treatment

Mole FAQs

  • What is the fastest way to get rid of moles in your yard?

Eliminate their food sources in your lawn by using effective lawn pest control treatments to minimize the populations of grubs that moles can feed on.

  • How do you keep moles out of your yard?

There are several methods to deter moles. The use of certain plants around the perimeter of your lawn can act as a mole repellant.

  • What is the best repellent for moles?

The most commonly used mole repellants use castor oil as moles hate the smell and taste of it. This can come in the form of granules or liquid spray mixes that are generously applied to areas of mole activity.

  • What attracts moles to your yard?

Moles are generally motivated by food, mating, and shelter so if there are any of the 3 available, there is a chance that a mole might move in. The easiest way to prevent this is to remove the source of food so they have nothing to sustain themselves on.
