Experienced Gopher Exterminators

Gophers are rodents that are identified by the damage they cause your lawn or garden. You might notice that there are horseshoe shaped dirt mounds in your well-maintained lawn which is indicative of gopher activity. They are generally harmless to humans, but they feed on the roots and stalks of vegetation around your property. This inevitably causes unsightly areas in your lawn where the grass in your lawn or plants in your garden have died or disappeared altogether. If that was not enough, gophers will chew through just about anything in their way including water lines, underground utility cables, and electricity lines.

EcoGuard Pest Management specializes in removing gophers and our highly trained technicians can identify where gopher mitigation strategies will be most effective. We use a baiting and trapping program to eliminate gophers from your property. If you find signs of gopher activity, give us a call to eliminate your problem so you can rest knowing that your lawn and garden are safe. Gopher Information

EcoGuard Pest Management is a leader in Gopher control methodology & service.

Gophers are solitary animals that will migrate from surrounding properties as a gopher burrow system can cover an area up to 2000 square feet with tunnels exceeding a mile long and over 6 feet deep. If your property is surrounded by lawns with gopher activity, it is only a matter of time before you find yourself with gophers as well. These rodents live for up to 3 years and will start reproducing at 1 year old. Gophers can produce up to 3 litters a year with 5-6 gophers per litter. Normally these circumstances would cause a gopher infestation to get out of hand quickly, but gophers are highly territorial and prefer to be solitary animals with only 1 gopher per tunnel system. This is why the young will be sent out of the burrow at an early age to find or dig a burrow for themselves.

Gophers prefer cool, soft, well irrigated soil rich with vegetation for them to feed on. There are several species of gophers who all prefer to feed on a wide variety of plant life including weeds, shrubs, crops, and trees. In addition to property damage, gophers also pose a health threat as they have been known to carry and transmit diseases like rabies and monkeypox.

Signs Of Gophers

Horseshoe shaped mounds – Gophers will surface at an angel which pushes the dirt into a horseshoe shaped mound. When they return to the tunnel, they backfill the hole so there is no tunnel opening.

Holes – Gophers will also reach the surface to create “feed holes” in which they use to grab vegetation. These holes are separate from the mounds and are much smaller in size.

Root damage – Gophers will feed on roots of young plants so if there are fresh mounds near plant life, the roots are usually destroyed.

Tunnels – When searching for gophers, try and connect mounds to see if there are subterranean tunnels that exist.

Gopher Treatment

Inspection

While it may be difficult to see gophers in action, the different signs left by the gophers will give our licensed technicians the clues they need to find, bait, and trap the gophers causing problems.

Gopher Baits

Gopher baits are an effective way of controlling gopher populations by using ecofriendly rodenticide baits that are applied below ground so non-target animals will not be able to find and eat the bait.

Gopher Traps

Gopher traps are much like rat traps that snap shut once activated by movement. These are placed at the entrance of gopher tunnels in the event that the trap shuts when the gopher breaches the soil.

Gopher Repellants

This method of gopher treatment utilizes nonlethal gopher repellant granules to deter gopher activity. The gophers avoid any area with these granules as they cannot stand the smell and taste of its active ingredient, castor oil.

*Gopher treatments may vary based on location due to applicable laws and regulations in that region.

Gopher FAQs

  • What is the best way to get rid of gophers?

One of the most effective methods of eliminating gopher populations is trapping. Traps can be deployed year-round and placed strategically where they will be most effective.

  • How do exterminators get rid of gophers?

The most effective methods of gopher extermination are poison pellets, traps, and repellants. This is because gophers rarely leave their burrow systems, so the methods need to target the gophers where they are most likely to be found.

  • How much does it cost to get rid of gophers?

Gopher control fluctuates depending on the size of area that needs treatment. That said, EcoGuard prices competitively to provide the best value possible.

  • What attracts gophers to your yard?

Gophers look for a steady source of food, water, and shelter. The better your lawn or yard is maintained and the healthier the grass and soil is, the more likely it is that gophers will want to make your lawn their new home.
