satisfaction-guaranteed-pest-control

Cockroaches can lay up to 300 eggs in a lifetime which means that a small infestation can get out of hand very quickly. These pests are also capable of finding the smallest entry points in foundation and wall cracks in their search for food and shelter. Once they’re inside they can contaminate your family’s food sources with different diseases like salmonella and E. coli and parasites like tapeworms. Once they have made a home, a cockroaches’ excrement produces pheromones that let other cockroaches know that a safe place has been found to nest. This is why it is critical that cockroaches are treated by professionals as soon as they are found. Enlisting EcoGuard’s cockroach control services will allow our technicians to identify signs of cockroaches and eliminate them as soon as they start to appear. Our service provides:

Cockroach Treatments

Inspection & Identification

Inspection is important as determining which variety of cockroach your infested with is critical to determine the extermination strategy. This is because different types of cockroaches are eliminated with different extermination methods. Smaller German cockroaches can be targeted using roach baits and insect growth regulators while American cockroaches are better off being treated with insecticide concentrates around entry points and outside.

Cockroach Bait Systems

Cockroach baits come in 3 forms: liquid, gel, solid. These baits are strategically placed where cockroaches are known to dwell. Once cockroaches consume the bait, they are infected and will continue to spread infection as they come in contact with other roaches in the harborage areas. In addition, cockroaches are cannibalistic so they will consume infected cockroaches which increases the efficacy of the bait.

Chemical Pesticide Treatment

Chemical treatment can be used in several ways. The most common being interior and exterior applications of insecticides. Interior treatments utilize a compound that has a residual effect and will continue to impact cockroach populations for some time after application. Exterior and entry point treatment act as protective barriers that poison cockroaches as they try and enter your dwelling preventing them from lasting long enough to start a reproductive cycle. For the most intense infestations, fumigation might be required which permeates all wall cavities and ensures that all cockroaches are exposed to the toxins necessary to wipe out every cockroach.

Cockroach Sanitation & Exclusion

Proactive measures like keeping a space clean will also help prevent cockroaches from taking hold. Removing open food sources and eliminating harborage areas will ensure that cockroaches are not able to find the resources they need to make a house their home. In addition to cleaning, ensuring that all cracks are sealed and laying down a perimeter application will help ensure that cockroaches cant enter your dwelling.

Cockroach Information

Cockroach Appearance

Adult cockroaches can reach .5 - 3 inches in length depending on the species. Most North American species range from olive brown to reddish to dark brown or black. Cockroaches have six legs with elongated oval bodies with long antennae. While most cockroach species have wings, they mostly stay low to the ground.

Cockroach Life Cycle and Reproduction

Before cockroaches reach maturity, they have developmental stages: egg, nymph, and then adult. Females develop 4 to 8 capsules containing 30 to 48 eggs each in their lifetime. Capsules hatch about 28 days after they begins to form. A few weeks thereafter, a new egg capsule begins to form. The egg stage varies in duration from 14 to 35 days. German cockroaches have 6 to 7 nymphal stages occurring over a period of 6 to 31 weeks. They express incomplete metamorphosis in the egg when zygotes develop and then hatch directly into nymphs, which then grow into adult cockroaches. The complete life cycle of the cockroach is roughly 100 to 200 days for females, during which 10,000 descendants of a single cockroach can be produced! Cockroach infestation occurs quickly!

Signs of Cockroach Infestations

Cockroaches tend to make their way into a home or business by catching a ride or gaining entry via tiny cracks. They are most active at night when they are in search of food which makes them less likely to be detected until you have several cockroaches living in your dwelling. Cockroaches in general aren’t social insects by nature but will congregate in the same areas as their excrement gives off a pheromone that identifies safe places for harborage. These places are known as aggregation points and are often found in cabinetry, wall voids, electronic equipment, or anywhere else cockroaches are not likely to be disturbed. Be sure to watch out for the following signs of a cockroach infestation:

  • Cockroach droppings
  • Unpleasant musty odors
  • Cockroach egg cases also known as oothecas

Cockroach Prevention

Different types of cockroaches look for different resources so if an infestation does occur it’s important to know how to remove the attractant. Cockroaches are typically looking for food, water, shelter, and mates but different species prefer different levels of moisture. Generally, keeping an area clean of debris and food is usually the best preventative method against cockroach infestations but sometimes that isn’t enough. German and Oriental cockroaches are attracted to water so ensuring there are no sources of leaks or standing water help minimize the potential of a German cockroach infestation. In addition, it helps to leave out roach motels bait traps or sticky traps to see how bad an infestation is. If an infestation is out of control, it might be time to hire professional pest control to help with cockroach extermination.

Cockroach FAQs

  • How does pest control get rid of cockroaches?

Cockroach exterminators use a combination of sanitation and treatment methods. They will clear out any harborage areas of debris to minimize food sources and prevent cockroaches from hiding in these areas. Then they will seal holes and openings to prevent access and the provide treatment via bait systems, traps, or chemical applications.

  • How much is pest control for cockroaches?

The national average for pest control services are $125 a service but that can vary depending on the severity of the infestation and size of treatment area. EcoGuard prices competitively and offers a pest free guarantee to ensure that we provide the best value possible.

  • Why do I have roaches in my clean house?

Roaches need more than just food and will often come into a dwelling in search of water and shelter. Leaky pipes and faucets often provide them the access they need for hydration which is why they are often found in bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry rooms. It is also important to note that a home that is clean can still provide cockroaches with enough sustenance as they are also known to feed on hair, dust, and their own excrement.

  • Is one roach a sign of infestation?

While cockroaches are not what you would consider social insects, they rarely are alone. They leave pheromones that let other cockroaches know where it is safe to hide. They also reproduce at incredible rates and are nocturnal so by the time you come across one cockroach, there are likely several inside your dwelling. It’s best to call EcoGuard to come give a thorough inspection to determine how severe a problem is just in case.
