Experienced Centipede Exterminators

Centipedes are elongated arthropods that have between 15 - 177 pairs of legs and can grow up to 150 mm. They are carnivorous predators so finding centipedes indoors usually means that there is enough pests and bugs for centipedes to survive on. While most species are not aggressive, they do pack a venomous bite if threatened. This bite isn’t lethal, but it will result in severe pain and generally won’t require medical attention unless there is an allergic reaction. While centipede bites are relatively rare, the possibility that one bites a pet or child is enough to warrant their removal. At EcoGuard Pest Management we are experienced and knowledgeable in all forms of centipede treatment methods from local treatment to web clearing. EcoGuard utilizes integrated pest management (IPM) and has over 40 years of combined experience providing centipede control services. We understand how difficult it is for most people to deal with centipedes as their appearance causes people’s skin to crawl. However, our goal is to ensure that centipedes do not get a chance to reproduce and cause a centipede infestation.

EcoGuard also offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee for all our customers, and we stand by our promise to eradicate your problem until the very last centipede is gone. That centipede control guarantee comes with every service and if they come back, then so do we, at no additional cost. Centipede Information

Centipede facts and treatment

For the most part, centipedes are nocturnal and hide in dark damp areas that are sheltered from disturbance. Given that, it is common to find centipedes in exterior harborage areas like piles of firewood, under leaf litter, etc. They generally will not infest an area as they are solitary creatures. However, they can live up to 6 years old and will produce up to 35 eggs per reproductive cycle. This can be concerning if they have managed to find their way inside and decide to lay eggs during their stay. Centipedes will make their way inside a home via small openings if they are in search of food, water, mates, or shelter from the elements. This is why the presence of centipedes in a home generally indicates a bigger pest problem.

They do provide some benefit as they are excellent hunters and will clear out other pest populations, but their appearance is enough to give most people reason to have them exterminated. Their bodies are segmented with a pair of legs attached to each body segment. As they get older, their bodies will grow segments and sprout more legs which gives you an idea of how old an adult centipede might be. The way the bodies of centipedes are structured allows them to lift their bodies to climb to areas that would otherwise be unreachable. They are also extremely fast with each of their legs working in unison to propel the centipede towards its prey or to shelter.

Inspection
A licensed centipede extermination technician will search a property for areas that centipedes might use as harborage points. The inspection will also result in a discussion on preventative measures that can be implemented to prevent centipedes in the future.

Chemical Pesticide Application
Our licensed technicians will lay down an exterior perimeter pesticide application as a barrier to prevent centipedes from entering a home. Not only will this prevent centipedes, but it will also prevent other bugs they prey on from entering as well, which should reduce the available resources centipedes need to survive. In addition to the exterior application, the interior will also be sprayed in areas that are potential harborage sites and around entry points to ensure that the poisons are left to infect any new centipedes that might take residence.

Dusting
Another natural way to combat centipedes is using powder dust mixes of boric acid and diatomaceous earth. These powders are used to desiccate most bugs which causes them to lose moisture and die from dehydration. This method is great for targeting hard to reach areas that chemical applications can’t reach and is completely nontoxic to humans and pets.

Common Types Of Centipede

Centipede FAQs

  • What attracts centipedes in your house?

Centipedes are usually drawn towards moisture, food sources, and shelter and will be attracted to dark damp areas to call home. If house centipedes have found their way inside your home, they will normally be found somewhere close to water like under the sink, by the tub, or by an area exposed to a leak.

  • What do centipedes hate?

Centipedes hate the smell of peppermint so the use of peppermint oil can be used as an all-natural safe alternative to centipedes. That said, the use of peppermint oil won’t deter some of the other bugs that centipedes feed on so having an EcoGuard pest control technician come out to treat your home will remove all your bug problems at once.

  • How do you get rid of centipedes fast?

The quickest way to kill a centipede is to crush it when you come in contact. However, if you would prefer to keep you distance, the alternatives would be to use an effective pesticide agent, or a vacuum.

  • Where do house centipedes lay eggs?

House centipedes live and lay their eggs in damp areas that won’t be disturbed like cellars, crawl spaces, and bathrooms. These eggs will be laid in places that are likely safe from exposure to humans like behind baseboards or under sinks.
