Experienced Carpet Beetle Exterminators

Carpet beetles are a problematic nuisance pest that are common on the west coast. Adult carpet beetles are small flying bugs that are attracted to light. This will draw them into your home where they can lay eggs in your carpet, clothing, and upholstery. The problem with that is the carpet beetle larvae are ravenous eaters that consume all sorts of organic textile materials like wool, silk, cotton, fur, hair, and even leather. This leads to the deterioration of a household’s clothes, bedding, curtains, and upholstery if left unmanaged.

We are experienced and knowledgeable in all forms of carpet beetle treatment methods. Carpet Beetle Information

Carpet Beetle facts for species found locally

There are several species of carpet beetles like the varied carpet beetle, black carpet beetle and the furniture carpet beetle. Each of these bugs share similar features with some small differences in appearance and preferred food sources. They are generally small black, white, and yellow or orange bugs that aren’t as problematic once they reach maturity. They primarily eat pollen as adults and won’t cause any problems if left outside. That said, they are attracted to light which brings them close to your home and they prefer to lay eggs where food sources for larvae are accessible and abundant. If there are signs of multiple carpet beetles in your home, there is a strong possibility that they have started to breed. If they have, they will most likely try to lay eggs somewhere that remains undisturbed and dark. If a female lays eggs, they will produce up to 100 eggs at a time which will hatch in about 2 weeks. It is important to note that while adults only live for a few weeks, larvae can live for longer than a year while they consume what they can in your home. This is why it is important to thoroughly vacuum and clean all carpets, rugs, and upholstery to catch any eggs that may have been left behind.

Insecticide Application – Chemical pesticide treatment will be applied to areas that are potential harborage points for carpet beetles. This residual pesticide should help eliminate carpet beetles as they come into contact with it.

Dusting – Using diatomaceous earth to dust areas that show signs of carpet beetles is another natural and effective treatment method. This acts as a desiccant which dries up bugs until they die. This method is safe for use inside as it is completely non-toxic to humans and pets.

Common Signs of Carpet Beetles

Carpet Beetle FAQs

  • How does pest control get rid of carpet beetles?

To get rid of carpet beetles, you must remove their food source. This usually requires a thorough cleaning using a powerful vacuum to pick up any potential food sources. Additional focus should be put on removing debris and cleaning areas that are usually overlooked. After cleaning, a residual insecticide or diatomaceous earth dusting can be applied.

  • Do you need an exterminator for carpet beetles?

While carpet beetles don’t cause much damage, the damage their larvae might cause may be enough incentive to bring on professional pest control help. Hiring professional pest control services to help exterminate carpet beetles may save you the hassle and headache of replacing damaged goods.

  • Will vacuuming get rid of carpet beetles?

Regular vacuuming can get rid of carpet beetles if the infestation hasn’t grown out of control. Be sure to use the correct attachments to get into place that carpet beetles’ eggs might be laid but might be inaccessible for the full vacuum.

  • How do you find the source of carpet beetles?

If signs of adult carpet beetles exist, be sure to look in dark, protected areas that are potential harborage points.  This can be difficult without previous experience but hiring a professional pest control service like EcoGuard can help identify where they are coming from and provide you with the service you need.
