Carpenter bees are one of several wood destroying organisms. They are significantly larger than your average honeybee and are often confused with bumble bees because of their size. Unlike bumble bees, who still have the yellow stripes, carpenter bees have a smooth blackish blue body with a yellow or white patch on their back. The problem with carpenter bees is that they will bore into wood by tearing little chucks out bit by bit until they have created large caverns inside of the wood to lay their eggs.
