Experienced Aphid Exterminators

Aphids are a destructive garden pest that can be extremely difficult for gardeners to get under control. They will target the stems and underside of leaves where they suck out the nutrient carrying fluids a plant needs to survive. This will cause leaves to deteriorate which stifles a plants ability to photosynthesize and grow. They also secrete a sticky liquid that attracts and propagates mold which is often carried to other plants that become infected. This combination of weakening plants while introducing new fungal problems can lead to a plant suffering and failing. What starts out as a small problem can get out of hand quickly as one weakened plant becomes the epicenter of a mold outbreak.

Aphid Information

Aphid facts for species found locally

Aphids are extremely small soft bodied bugs that are common in the United States. They are attracted to new growth and will infest everything from shrubs, to trees, crops, and flowers. There are a wide variety of different aphids that come in all colors. Different species of aphids are attracted to different plants, but the damage dealt is the same. Aphids will colonize a plant, reproducing rapidly and forming clusters around the base of leaves. These populations will suck sap from the plant which cause leaf discoloration. If populations grow big enough, the entire plant can collapse from nutrient deficiency. When populations grow too large, aphids will also move to other uninfected plants in search of resources. This repeats the process which causes large uncontrollable infestations in a short period of time.

Common Signs of Aphids

Aphid FAQs

  • How do you get rid of aphids permanently?

Getting rid of aphids permanently can be difficult for large gardens as it is an ongoing battle which requires constant attention. Permanent eradication of aphids is best achieved through population reduction methods like spraying with neem oil to prevent infestations. Any aphids that make their way into your garden should be slowed down enough by those preventative measures to allow identification and elimination possible. Introducing predatory insects can also help reduce populations while signs of aphids go undetected.

  • What is the best aphid killer?

Look for sprays that include a combination of insecticide, fungicide, and miticide to offer complete protection against aphids, other small mites, and any mold that might grow due to honeydew.

  • What do you spray on aphids?

Insecticidal soaps and horticultural oils like neem oil are effective treatments against aphid populations. Applying a spray leaves a thin barrier that is designed to repel or kill aphids that are in your garden.

  • Can you kill aphids with vinegar?

Vinegar kills aphids because it contains an acid that kills them on contact. When diluted with water, the mix becomes an effective treatment for an infected plant that helps control aphid populations but won’t hurt the plant.
